40th Anniversary Celebration comes to a Close

Repeating a theme from throughout the weekend, Conway’s Director, Paul Cawood Hellmund, brought to a close the celebration of the school’s fortieth anniversary. “Thanks for ‘hiking the leeward hills of our affection’ with us over this weekend,” he said, quoting a poem by former Conway humanities professor Maureen Buchanan Jones.

Some of the nearly 100 Conway alums and friends who gathered at the Conway School on the last day of the 40th anniversary celebration. Present were three of the four people who have held the position of humanities professor and all three past and present school directors.

The celebration concluded with a gathering of alums and friends, who came to honor present and past Conway staff. In addition to Maureen Buchanan Jones and the current humanities professor, Ken Byrne, also attending was the first person to hold that position, Richard Williams.

Former Director Don Walker, former Humanities Professor Richard Williams, and founding Director Walt Cudnohufsky attended the Sunday morning gathering.

Both of Conway’s previous directors were there: Walter Cudnohufsky and Donald Walker. Other current and former staff/teachers in attendance included Mollie Babize, Nancy Braxton, Kim Erslev, Jono Neiger, David Nordstrom, Priscilla Novitt, Sue Reed, and Dana Tomlin.
