Conway students will present creative solutions to six very different and very demanding real-world projects, at Conway on Friday, March 1, 2013, 9:00 AM – 4:45 PM. Please come see the school in action. Let us know if you are coming by rsvp-ing here.
Each year, students work on three projects — an individual project at a residential scale in the fall, a team project in the winter at a larger land use planning scale, and a more site-specific team project, also at the community scale, in the spring.
Projects this winter include a food security plan for Lowell, MA; cultural asset mapping for Brattleboro, VT; a plan for the forest economy in Windham region, VT; a conservation management plan for a 100+ acre conservation area in Scituate, MA; and Open Space and Recreation Plans for Concord, MA and Lenox, MA.
With each term, students give weekly presentations to the faculty, culminating in a formal presentation before a panel of critics two or three weeks before the end of the term. We ask three people to serve as critics — generally one Conway alum, one professional landscape architect or planner who has worked in the field, and an ecologist. By scheduling the presentations before the end of the term, students can incorporate suggestions and comments made by critics in their final plans. The panel of critics this winter will include regional planner Anne Capra ’00, ecologist Molly Hale and multidisciplinary designer and planner Jonathan Fogelson.
