There is a special opportunity we wanted to alert you to that is created by a federal tax law that allows tax-free gifts from IRAs for 2011. This creates a special opportunity for nonprofit organizations like the Conway School.
If you are considering a donation to The Conway School and are able to use IRA funds, this provision will enable you to make an even larger impact by eliminating 100% of the tax that you would normally pay on these distributions.
As you may know, taxpayers age 70½ and older are required to take annual distributions from their IRAs. These distributions are taxed as ordinary income.
The new IRA Charitable Rollover language permits taxpayers to make charitable donations directly from their IRAs without paying taxes on them. The law includes a special provision that qualified donations made as late as Jan. 31, 2012 will be counted as having been made on Dec. 31, 2011 for tax filing purposes.
Please contact us if you would like to consider this giving opportunity for the Conway School. We would be happy to provide specific instructions regarding how this works.
Tax-free gifts from IRAs are simple to complete, and may be a great option for meeting your philanthropic goals.
