Graduate Program in Sustainable Landscape
Planning and Design
“Conway School hones the skills and the design capabilities of its
graduate students against the rigors of the real world and real projects
while maintaining a deep ethical sense of the long term needs of
humanity and the planet. Vision and practicality are fused and rendered
meaningful."

CSLD's Mission
The mission of the Conway School of Landscape Design is to
explore, develop, practice, and teach design of the land that is
ecologically and socially sustainable.
The intention is to:
provide graduates with the basic knowledge and skills
necessary to practice planning, design and management of the land that respects nature as
well as humanity;
develop ecological awareness, understanding, respect, and
accommodation in its students and project clients; and
produce project designs that fit human use to natural
conditions.
Sustainable design is what's needed in the world today and it's at
the heart of the mission of the Conway School of Landscape Design and
its Graduate Program in Sustainable Landscape Design & Planning. In this
video Conway faculty and recent graduates talk about the school's
mission and impact.
The School's mission guides decision-making at every level: who is
hired, what projects are undertaken, how courses are structured, and
what offices and sites are visited on field trips. While the program is
thoroughly based in ecological beliefs and practices, the focus of the
education remains design rather than environmental science.
